"Age is strictly a case of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter." ~ Jack Benny
Rappahannock Rapidan Community Services (RRCS) offers Aging Services, meals, transportation, and, most importantly, a lifeline to community for seniors (60+) in Orange, Madison, Culpeper, Fauquier, and Rappahannock counties in the Piedmont.
Marci Pearson, the supervisor for Orange's Senior Center, joined us at the request of RRCS volunteer driver and Rotarian Bill Hepler. Marci described for us a vibrant community shared by staff, volunteers, and seniors at the Center, open Monday through Friday from 10am to 2pm. The Orange Senior Center can accommodate up to 50 people and offers a wide variety of activities, a no-cost/low-cost nutritious luncheon, access to other agency services and local support networks, plus tons of camaraderie and fun.
While the Senior Center is the focal point for much of what the RRCS offers, it is not the only way they support the Seniors in our community. Through home-delivered meals, advocacy & outreach, transportation services, Medicare/Medicaid and Insurance counseling, RRCS reaches out to our Senior community and their families.
Most of the programs offered are low-cost/no-cost or means evaluated services. There is always a need for donations and volunteers. One particular ongoing need is for volunteer drivers to pickup and deliver meals and to assist Seniors to get to important legal/medical appointments.
If you or someone you know think you could spend an afternoon or morning each week performing this invaluable service for the community, please contact Marci at:
