The Rotary Club of Orange, VA is pleased to announce the establishment of the David M. Sherman Memorial Scholarship.   The $5,000 annual scholarship will be awarded to a deserving graduate of Orange County High School who plans to attend VA Tech to study engineering.

David’s parents W.A. “Welford” Sherman Jr. and Irwin M. Sherman donated the Memorial Christmas Tree in Orange’s Taylor Park and funded this scholarship in David’s memory.  David was 8 years old when he died after a gallant fight with cancer in 1958.  He loved the twinkling Christmas lights on the trees lining the streets of New York while there for surgeries and treatments.

David’s joy inspired the idea of a Community Memorial Christmas Tree for Orange, VA, and Welford Sherman held an engineering degree from Virginia Tech.
